The Angel(2/2)

目录

durg so dayssur, the sunbeas would lie on the floor of the celr for about half an hour.

In this spot the poor sick boy would sit warg hiselfthe sunshe, and watg the red blood through his delicate fgers as he held the before his face.

then he would say he had been out, yet he knew nothg of the green forestits sprg verdure, till a neighbor’s sht hi a green bough fro a beech-tree.

this he would pce over his head, and fancy that he wasthe beech-wood while the sun shone, and the birds carolled gayly.

one sprg day the neighbor’s bht hi so field-flowers, and aong the was oo which the root still adhered.

this he carefully pnteda flower-pot, and pceda dow-seat near his bed.

And the flower had been pnted by a fortunate hand, for it grew, put forth fresh shoots, and blossod every year.

It beca a splendid frden to the sick boy, and his little treasure upoh.

he watered it, and cherished it, and took care it should have the be of every suhat found its way to the celr, fro the earliestray to the eveng su.

the flower eniself evenhis dreas — for hi it blood, for hi spread its perfu.

And it gddened his eyes, and to the flower he turned, even ih, when the Lord called hi.

he has been one year with God.

durg that ti the flower has stoodthe dow, withered and fotten, till at length cast out aong the sweepgs to the street, on the day of the lodgers’ reoval.

And this poor flower, withered and faded as it is, we have added to our nosegay, becae it gave ore real joy tha beautiful flowerthe garden of a queen.”

“but how do you know all this?”

asked the child who the angel was carryg to heaven.

“I know it,” said the angel, “becae I yself was the poor sick boy who walked upon crutches, and I know y own flower well.”

then the child opened his eyes and looked to the glorio happy face of the angel, and at the sa ont they found theselvesthat heavenly ho where all is happess and joy.

And God pressed the dead child to his heart, and gs were given hi so that he uld fly with the angel, handhand.

then the Alighty pressed all the flowers to his heart; but he kissed the withered field-flower, and it received a voice.

then it joedthe song of the angels, who surrouhe throne, so near, and othersa distant circle, but all equally happy.

they all joedthe chor of praise, both great and sall, — the good, happy child, and the poor field-flower, that once y withered and cast away on a heap of rubbisha narrow, dark street.
